Wine making is probably not a hobby that a lot of people really consider. It seems complicated, probably tiring, and is it expensive?
It’s probably expensive too.
Well, actually, it isn’t any of those. In fact, it’s much less expensive than buying white or red wines from a local store.
But It’s Complicated, Right?
Home wine making isn’t difficult, it takes a little practice – and yes, you have to read instructions. But even the first time that you try it out you will make a fantastic brew of wine that fills many bottles and lasts you many months at the very least.
Learning how to do is as simple as following a set of instructions, purchasing a kit to use for the process, and just doing it.
You won’t even make a mess.
Are Home Wine Making Kits Expensive?
You can potentially get everything you need to make wine in your own home for around one hundred dollars. There are home kits for red wine and some for white that cost more, so it really depends on your own propensity to invest in the product. You can make fabulous wines with the least expensive of these, but as you prolong and become more involved in the hobby and the process and the craft it is pretty likely that you’ll decide you want to invest in a bigger and possibly more expensive kit.
When we first got excited about making wine at home we didn’t know anything about the process, in fact, we assumed that we would have to contact a local vineyard just to be able to get grapes to make our own wine – we didn’t even know that wine could be made from a kit!
But it can, and as it turns out, even ‘instructionally challenged’ people like my self can learn how to do it, and make red wine batches that impress my friends and family.
It’s Probably Exhausting, I Don’t Have the Time
Well, actually, it won’t cost much of your time at all and the process is quite low on labor. Wine making takes patience. You don’t make a batch of wine ferment over night, there is no way. It has to ferment and this takes time – but not your time. The staff blogging at Wine Stained Feet wrote up home wine making instructions on how to make wine from a kit, because it can be nice to have a more detailed interpretation of the process and know that someone else has been there, and probably had all the same questions that you have now.
It isn’t something to worry about. Making wine from home is about fun, enjoying the craft, learning something new, and of course, having delicious wines to share with your friends, family, colleagues etc. You’ll be surprised how quickly you become labelled as that person who makes wine from home. And you’ll be surprised how many people ask you these same questions, wondering if home wine making from a kit is something that they could be doing too.
