You’re making a dinner party, a wedding, or a get-together with friends, and you are looking for a fun, colorful theme. One of best themes to use is a tropical theme. It can bring warmth to a cold room, is exciting and it will raise everyone’s spirits automatically, getting them into the party spirit.
So how do you make a tropical theme for your dinner party?
Here are some ideas:
Let’s first look at the color scheme. Tropical colors are usually bright and warm and are created from several different hues. These include orange, yellow, red, and green. Therefore the best table setting colors would be something like a yellow cloth with orange napkins. You could then use dark colored silverware to add to the contrast. At each place, you could put a little tropical umbrella to add to the spirit.
After setting the table according to these colors, let’s look at some centerpiece ideas. One of the best things to use for this purpose is different kinds of tropical fruit. For example, you could take a fresh pineapple and decorate it with cocktail sticks bearing different fruits, including glace cherries, slices of lemon and orange, and some pieces of kiwi. The best thing about using fruit as centerpieces for tables is that it can be eaten afterwards as dessert – serving a dual purpose.
Another idea is to use one large fruit as a bowl or vase and filling it with other fruit. One idea is hollowing out a watermelon and filling it with pieces of pineapple, cantaloupe, and cherries. Then, your guests can nibble on these bite-sized pieces of fruit throughout the meal.
Alternatively, if you have no time to make anything so elegant, you might simply want to fill a fruit bowl with whole exotic fruit, including bananas, papayas, nectarines, and other colorful and tasty delights.
Apart from colorful fruit, you could also use beautiful tropical flowers to decorate the table. These include rare blooms such as heliconia, anthuriums, orchids, and even roses. You could put them together in a colorful vase. Alternatively, you could combine them with fruit, such as putting them together with fruit at the base and tying them to bamboo to give them some height. Another interesting idea would be to use a hollowed-out pineapple or half a coconut instead of a vase. However, if you do decide to use fruit as a vase or base, always add the flowers last because sometimes the combination can shorten the life of the flowers somewhat and they will die before the end of the evening.
If you need to use these ideas for wedding centerpieces, you may find that purchasing so many rare tropical flowers (because you will need them for a certain number of tables) could become very expensive. Therefore, another idea would be to use silk flowers instead of real ones. At least they will look beautiful right until the end, and you can then keep them for other purposes, such as decorating your home.
