The Effectiveness of Green Tea for Weight Loss

A lot of people are wondering if green tea is really effective when it comes to weight loss. There are many weight loss supplements today, diet pills and diet programs, Is green tea any better than all of these things? Green tea are made is made from a plant called Camellia sinensis. The leaves of the tea re green at harvest. When they are exposed to the air, they darken. If not, they will remain green. So, effective is green tea for weight loss? Is it also safe?

There are still few studies which examined the effect of green tea on weight loss so the findings are still not that substantive. More studies are still needed. A physiologist named William Rumpler examined the effect of oolong tea on the expenditure of energy. Four beverages were tested including green tea. Volunteers who drank green tea saw a rise in their metabolism rate by 2.9% to 3.4%. Although this really does not make much of a difference, it does prove that green tea can be very helpful in losing the extra pounds. Another interesting fact is oolong tea can increase fat oxidation by 12%.  Japanese researchers also discovered the effect of oolong tea on metabolism. Oolong tea can increase metabolism by 10%, green tea can increase metabolism by 4% for 120 minutes.

Although there are no other studies which confirm that consumption of green tea and oolong tea would increase metabolism. Further research is still needed before manufacturers can put on their labels that green tea can help people lose weight. Although green tea benefits are numerous, green tea contains a large amount of caffeine and this is what causes a lot of concerns. People are concerned that drinking large amounts of green tea might have harmful side effects on the body. It is better to consult your doctor before you start drinking green tea for weight loss. However, it is claimed that green tea is generally safe for everyone to use, except for nursing and pregnant women.
