This microwave oven will turn some heads – guaranteed. Its face is held in shiny red which is a welcomed change to the uniform stainless steel look that most appliances feature these days.
But after all there are more relevant aspects than just the aesthetics, and the following article will specifically address the performance, the features and the customer-friendliness of this unit, followed by a buyer’s recommendation and a possible alternative if you feel that this product is not a good fit for what you are looking for.
Emerson MW8999RD microwave oven review:
Let’s get to the facts first. With 0.9 cubic foot of interior capacity and 900 Watt of cooking power, there are definitely some limits. This unit is a typical small sized microwave and does not allow for cooking at a larger scale. However, during our test ride it did to a good job in defrosting frozen foods and heating up cooked meals (and beverages). Overall a very solidly performing oven.
On purpose and perfectly adequate considering the rather compact dimensions of the MWM8999RD, the features were kept to a minimum, no unnecessary knick-knacks. The appliance is equipped with a digital timer, clock, cooking light, removable turntable, defrosting option and eight standard cooking programs which take care of your most popular microwave oven foods. The layout of the soft touch buttons is intuitive, no guesswork or manual needed. This appliance measures 11.3 x 20.0 x 16.1 inches and weighs approximately 30 lbs. Last but not least, the MW8999RD comes with a practical pull open handle, a feature that is proven to be much appreciated by most consumers and definitely preferred over a push-open button.
Who do we recommend this product for? This oven is a very good choice for singles and smaller families who just need a microwave to warm up a meal, a cup of tea or defrost frozen foods occasionally. Due to its limits in cooking power and capacity, we can’t recommend it to consumers who need an appliance which allows for serious cooking on a regular basis. And of course, anybody who simply loves the fact that it’s a red microwave will certainly like this very inexpensive product. It can be usually purchased for under $60 online.
A more pricey yet more sophisticated alternative to the Emerson model is the Cuisinart CMW100. With 1.0 cubic foot and 1000 Watt of power it offers a little more in the performance department. However, the dimensions are practically the same compared to the MW8999RD. The CMW100 features 25 pre-programmed settings, 2 stage cooking, a 12 inch glass turntable and comes with a 3 year limited warranty.
